Castle Park Footbridge
Bedburg, Germany
The Castle Park Footbridge project in Bedburg is located in the middle of the town center and directly adjoins the main shopping area. The city of Bedburg wants to clearly emphasize the relationship to the Erft River in Bedburg's inner city as well as making the proximity to the water tangible and to create new connections. For this to be achieved, new bridges will be built at the rear of the old town hall and at the southern end of the castle parking lot in the south.
The two bridges have a slightly similar design and creates new pathways. Respectively in an east-west direction and in a north-south direction, they contribute in opening up the castle park in the direction of Bedburg's city center.
The new bridges are designed as a 'bridge family' in terms of form and typology. They create new high-quality and prestigious connections that integrate into the castle park in a discreet but image-building way, creating new expressive places.
Due to their special design simplicity and choice of materials, the use of the bridges is a special experience for the users and offers a high quality of stay.
The choice of materials supports the identity formation of the place by reflecting the local brick colors. Therefore, the particular pattern of the railing of the two bridges has an image-building function. Also, due to the transparency of the railing in vertical view, the experience of the Erft into the two bridges is directly perceptible.
