“The Sky Eye”
The indoor theatre is in Taiyaun aims at being a large classical venue in Shanxi Province. Designed to integrate 1677 setas, it will compose the final leave of the current outdoor project on site. The indoor theatre is part of a larger composition designed as a “lotus” mandala. The project creates a continuous flow and a unique centralised composition. The entrance curved bridge announces the lotus geometry at the arrival. The Theatre – Outdoor and Indoor – will bring public together. Thousands of eyes are then unified to participate to a performance and be inspired by the work of art.
The theatre within the landscape aims at leaving a cultural heritage and a landmark along the river for a longer timeframe. The theatre building itself will form the whole composition background. The theatre building is placed within the river meander: the building and the landscape creates a specific resonance. It is a genius loci. Its form emerges from the earth. It is a fluid movement that connects. The stage will be oriented towards the outdoor theatre “buddha”. The building is built up on a peeling concept. 7 symbolic leaves are creating a three- dimensional sculpture that focus on the stage. The whole form is generated around the stage as the main center of energy: it is the center of creation. The inspiration comes from within the self. From outside, the golden center shines towards the sky. The “sky eye” invites us to the art.
