STERLING PRESSER ARCHITECTS + ENGINEERS
Leadership at the Intersection of Architecture + Engineering
STERLING PRESSER is a senior-led studio where architectural design, structural intelligence and engineering precision come together through a focused interdisciplinary team.
Co-founded in 2018 by Elke Sterling-Presser and Nicolas Sterling, the studio builds on more than 45 years of combined experience in architecture, structural design and complex project development. Today, this experience is extended through the work of architects, engineers, computational designers and specialist collaborators.
As a boutique practice, we stay close to each project while bringing the right expertise to complex buildings, infrastructure, masterplans and public spaces.
Our work connects design ambition, structural clarity, material thinking and environmental responsibility from the first concept stage. We design with the future in mind — creating projects that are technically intelligent, carefully integrated and meaningful for the people who use them.
Elke Sterling-Presser is an architect and design leader with international experience in complex cultural, public and infrastructural projects.
Her work connects architectural concept, spatial experience, digital design and research. Before founding STERLING PRESSER, she worked internationally on ambitious architectural projects and developed a strong interest in the relationship between form, structure, context and public space.
Elke leads the studio’s architectural design direction, cultural positioning, research agenda and strategic communication. Her work is shaped by a commitment to integrated design, regenerative thinking and the creation of meaningful spatial experiences.

Elke Sterling-Presser
Full Biography
Elke Sterling-Presser is a licensed architect with a background that connects international practice, academic teaching, research and entrepreneurial leadership. She studied architecture in Heidelberg and later completed an Advanced Master of Architecture at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main. During this time, she was taught and influenced by internationally recognised figures including Ben van Berkel, Johan Bettum, Beatriz Colomina and Mark Wigley.
Her professional experience includes almost a decade at Zaha Hadid Architects in London, where she worked on ambitious architectural projects at the intersection of complex geometry, spatial innovation and international project development. This experience shaped her interest in the relationship between concept, structure, context and public space.
Alongside her work in practice, Elke has maintained a strong connection to teaching, research and public building culture. Since 2019, she has taught at the Berlin University of the Arts, following earlier academic work at the University of Greenwich in London. She has also held a guest professorship in Salzburg, focusing on artificial intelligence in architecture and emerging digital design processes.
In addition, she supports the Berlin Senate Department for Urban Development, Building and Housing on a part-time basis in a client-side representative role. This perspective strengthens her understanding of public-sector processes, project governance and the responsibilities involved in delivering architecture for the public realm.
Her work is driven by the belief that architecture can act as a catalyst for positive transformation. Through collaborative workflows and cross-disciplinary thinking, she explores how buildings, infrastructure and public spaces can respond more intelligently to environmental, social and cultural challenges.
Elke has authored and co-authored articles, publications and books. Her work has received international recognition and has been published widely.
