Vellum Wave Hotel
Oslo, Norway
“How can a five-star retreat ripple into the natural Nordic landscape, merging fluid architecture with the serenity of the Oslo Fjord?”
Project Overview
The Vellum Wave Hotel is a five-star architectural marvel positioned on the tranquil shores of the Oslo Fjord. Designed to be a serene retreat for design lovers and nature seekers, the project balances high-end hospitality with deep ecological respect. The building serves as a destination that integrates 120 bespoke suites into the dramatic fjord landscape, ensuring every guest experience is defined by a direct connection to the water.

Design Concept
The building is defined by an organic, ribbon-like form that softens its overall mass. Gently undulating horizontal balconies create a fluid façade, while locally sourced dark stone at the base provides a strong, grounded contrast to the reflective glass above, which responds to the changing Arctic sky. The lower levels house social and wellness spaces, including a fireside lounge and a Nordic-inspired restaurant, designed to create a warm, comfortable atmosphere focused on social connection.

Structure and Engineering
The structural approach prioritizes the cantilevered "waves" that define the hotel’s silhouette.

Sustainability (Regeneration/Resilience)
Eco-conscious principles are embedded into the design to protect the sensitive fjord ecosystem.
Urban Integration and Spatial Experience
The hotel is integrated into its urban and natural surroundings through a clear sequence of spaces that balance exclusivity with openness. The entrance plaza provides a controlled arrival experience, using soft lighting and landscaping to transition from the exterior into the interior. Each suite includes a private terrace oriented toward the water, directing views toward the horizon. While offering privacy for guests, the building preserves important visual corridors along the fjord and contributes to the Oslo skyline without obstructing key views.
